Yes, I know. I'm sorry -- I was going to update this earlier, but a war got in the way. Most of these are probably horribly outdated by now, but a good fic can't have too many recs.
The Chronicles of Narnia Buried by Ivy Blossom Story three in a series, preceded by "Turkish Delight" and "Tame". There's not much I can say about it without sounding trite and tired, but these are some of the best Narnia fanfic I've read so far. The fics are passworded -- type "veela" and "over18".
Executive Committee Otherwise known as Minekura Kazuya's attempt to convince us that self-indulgent AUs are a good thing. And what do you know, she's succeeding. If anyone knows of more good EC fics, please send them my way.
Games by Alexandra Lucas Tokitoh and Kubota play Mega Bomber Man, and say a lot without saying much at all.
Gensomaden Saiyuki Halcyon/Hell by Eline I love AUs that retain much of the original characterisation without necessarily being hobbled by it. This fic comes in two versions: yaoi and non-yaoi. It's also unfinished, so do send her lots of feedback, hmm?
Good Omens Living Arrangements by afrai Oh dear god why do I torture myself like this? Reads like the slow slide of a knife through the heart, but so good.
Harry Potter The Substitute by Anna An absolutely hysterical Harry Potter/Crocodile Hunter crossover. Steve Irwin becomes Hogswarts' new Care of Magical Creatures professor! :D Het.
Curiouser and Curiouser by Blythely Another crossover, this time with Alice in Wonderland. Delightfully surreal. Gen/het.
John Constantine: Hellblazer Dancing With The Devil by Eddie A popslash crossover. The fic that broke my popslash cherry, so to speak. I meant to recommend this ages ago, but better late than never.
Suffer the Children and Death And The Art Of Pyramid Selling by Rossi Rossi has just finished "Death and the Art", so I thought this would be a good time to rec them. By the time you're done with "Suffer the Children", the last chapter should be up. ^_~ If you're fond of Jamie Delano's Constantine, these are the fics for you. Gen/het.
King Kong Beast Was a Tough Guy, Too by Tinnean Based on the classic movies. And you thought it wasn't possible.
Lotrips Two Wishes by cimorene It is not until the third dream that Karl realizes he is dreaming about being Viggo. Karl and Viggo in Japan, and the revelationary quality of photographs.
Meta Between the Lines: A Hurt/Comfort fic by foreverdirt Exactly what the title suggests. The last line is a killer.
RPS Untitled by Random George Lucas/Steven Spielberg. Mwahahahaha!
The Text Of A Recently Discovered Document, Purporting To Be Friedrich Engels' Discarded First Draft Of The Preface To The 1885 Edition Of Das Kapital By Karl Marx by kbk and Nostalgia Karl Marx/Friedrich Engels. Which is all I need to say, really.
St. Clare's China Dolls by Kanna Ophelia Brilliant. I'd say more, but re-reading it has turned my brain into a shivering glop -- partly because the intense, hopeless relationship reminds me of my school days. Alison/Angela.
The Sandman Sleep for grief by Melymbrosia Inspired by recent events. For everyone who has ever been so angry that only dreams seem to offer an articulate form to your thoughts and emotions. No, it's not enough, but it will do for now. Gen.
All Hearts, Which I By Lacking by Ellen Fremedon Dream/Hob Gadling. Sad and appropriately dreamlike.
Smallville Respire by MartianHousecat I seem to be recommending a lot of AUs this time around. This is a creepy, perfectly plausible futurefic. Featuring lying!Clark and denial!Lex, taken to their bloody conclusion.
The Last Night on Earth by zahra Awwww. (You'll probably need this after the previous rec.)
Trigun Visible Scars by Andraste Vashandwolfwood. Well-written, with the soft ache of foreshadowing. I may be seeing this with a beta reader's bias, but it's good.
Sweating Bullets by Tenshi Tenshi has captured the lighter side of Trigun perfectly. Boys and bullets, oh my.
Yami no Matsuei Worth by Loki's Rose A lovely, fluffy Tatsumi/Watari fic. Something for when you feel in need of a mental cuddle.
Experimentation by Pandora Souris-Cadavre Short and sweet, with just the right hint of spicyness. Tatsumi/Watari. You may have to subscribe to the mailing list to get to the archive, but at least you'll also be able to access many other fics by Australian and New Zealand ficwriters. *g*

From Eroica With Love The Ocktober Project by various I'm not even going to attempt to describe all the stories here. They include everything from romantic supernatural stories to the seriously fucked, and they're all good. Don't wait until Halloween to read them.
Good Omens The Sacred and the Profane by afrai I had a hard time choosing just one of afrai's GO fics to recommend, but this wins hands down in terms of uniqueness and black humour. It's an AU. It's Crowley/Aziraphale as you never knew them. It's also a WIP, so send afrai some encouragement. And babies onna stick.
Falling and Fallen by Pandora Souris-Cadavre Aziraphale and Crowley, and temptation. Gentle but not as fluffy as it can be, and all the better for that.
Gravitation Second Love by Eidolon Tree Because Eidolon writes Yuki Eiri like no other and manages to make Shuichi less annoying, while still being in-character. Scroll down the page -- I can't link directly to the fic because it's in three seperate parts.
Gundam Wing Come Undone by Natalie Baan It's unfortunate that the assumption Quatre is a Muslim is taken as a fact by many writers, without actually thinking what it means to Quatre as a person. This fine character study of Quatre and Duo does just that, among bigger themes of friendship and peace. Gen.
The Education of Heero Yuy by Vermilion Flame Vermilion rewrites and remakes Heero/Duo cliches. Sweet and hot, like a jam tart just out of the oven.
Harry Potter Just Like My Daddy by Liz Barr A James Potter story that bites. James/Severus, purebloods, and a whole lot of fucked-upness.
Oubliette by Kate Bolin You know that feeling you get when you think someone's watching you, but you can only catch a glimpse of something at the corner of your eyes when you turn around? Yeah.
Malory Towers An Unusual Friendship by Kanna Ophelia Considering how well Kanna Ophelia writes in Enid Blyton's voice, this fic should feel, well, wrong. But it doesn't. Read the story and enjoy the pleasure of having your childhood icons gently, sweetly broken. Bill/Clarissa and hints of Sally/Darrell.
Petshop of Horrors Blood and Earthsong by bonnejeanne and Cassiopeia Ignore the magenta background of the first story -- it's worth reading. The stories capture the feel of the anime quite well, though at times it strays into Hollywood martial-art-cop-buddy movie territory. Leon and D are finely-written. Leon/D, vaguely AU.
Revolutionary Girl Utena Outside Looking In by Sora no Kumo A lovely Utena-centric fic about memories and belonging. Valentine's Day has come and gone, but this one has a warmth that lingers. Utena/Anthy, post-series.
Weiss Kreuz Bekampfen sie das Kreuz by Vitani One of the few fics that bring Weiss and Schwarz together realistically. Not without its problems (particularly spelling mistakes) but it's a nice, solid read from start to finish. Some shounen-ai and het.
A Ride on the Subway and The Subway Revisited by Talya Firedancer Oh my god. Sararimen/Yohji, kink, and all the good stuff. PWP. Do not read with parental units, children, or employers in the same room.
The Wishing Chair Wings by stiletto Chinky/Chair. Theirloveissowoody.
X-Men The Gauguin Series by queenB I'd forgotten how much I used to like the X-Men, and how much femslash potential there were in the comic books. This unusual pairing is vividly and convincingly written. Jean (Phoenix)/Betsy (Psylocke).
Yami no Matsuei Flawlessly Yours by shi lin This story reads better with some knowledge of the manga, but don't let it stop you. Muraki/Oriya, preceded by blood.
Hiyouten by Tenshi no Korin Muraki and Oriya and snow. Brr. Few writers do Muraki's POV justice, but Tenshi is one of them. If you like this fic, have a look at Yuurei no Tegami, which reads like a mirror from Oriya's eyes. Yaoi.
The Incident with the Owl by Asidian So. Cute. Tatsumi/Watari, among other pairings. One of the better ones out there.
Mating Habits of the Species Shinigami by Kouri Arashi It is a truth universally acknowledged that all Tatsumi/Watari fics must involve 003. That's my hypothesis, anyway.

This is probably the last big update for a while, so do take your time reading the stories. *g*
The Chronicles of Narnia Turkish Delight and Tame by Ivy Blossom Is there anything I can say that would adequately describe the sweet melancholy of these fics? Not very true to the original novels, but anything that can make me sigh over Edmund/Bacchus is okay by me. "Turkish Delight" is passworded, but the username and password are provided in the pop-up box. Why? Something about search engines. Don't ask me, just read the stories.
Final Fantasy VIII The Cure For Evil by harpy_elian The cafeteria lady wants to know what she wants. Two lasagnas, two bottles of Winhill Spring un-carbonated, two salads and a side helping of guilt, resentment and loneliness sounds good. Xu/Quistis, pre-game.
Harry Potter Cat's Cradle by Silvia Kundera Draco/Dumbledore, but not the way you think.
The Wizard of Aus by Bernice Russell A parody so Aussie, you'll find yourself wanting to feed Steve Irwin to the drop-bears.
Hellsing Integral rocks. Thank you, and good night.
The Low Road by Mess On Integral and mortality, narrated from Alucard's POV. Chilling and darkly jaunty. Spoilers for the end of the anime.
The Lord of the Rings My One True Pairing of choice in this fandom is Legolas/Gimli. Deal with it.
Parental Consent by Honesty See Yasmin laughing. See Yasmin cough up her tea. Now see this fic. Legolas/Gimli.
Raven's Song by Camilla Sandman A long, solid story that made me wish for a happily-ever-after. There is one in there of a kind, though, the sort that reminded me of heroes in old mythology. Legolas/Gimli.
A Gift by Keelywolfe Some readers may feel a desire for fluff after reading "Raven's Song". Try this one. Legolas/Gimli.
Not Willingly Unlock by Isos Arei Legolas and Gimli rendered in lyrical prose. Lovely, in the old-fashioned sense of the word.
By Root and Twig by A. Vulgarweed Merry/Pippin/Treebeard. Hooyay.
The Orc's Tongue by Lobelia Orc/Pippin. Dark, nasty, and well-written. The easily-squicked should look elsewhere.
Dale Edmonds' One Ring Challenge has inspired many extraordinary fics, and these are my favourites:
A Crown of Roses by dana-chan Rosie Cotton.
Beauty by Kate Bolin Galadriel.
King Under The Mountain by Zara Hemla Thorin.
Webs by Roz Kaveney Shelob.
LOTR RPS I am doomed. Doomed.
Holding the Pose by Sheldrake The fic that seduced me into RPS. Sean B./Orlando.
The Another Island Series by Karelian Sean B./Viggo stories that rasp and sing. I linked to the index page just in case, but you can find them in the stories page.
Popslash/Agatha Christie Death On The High Seas by TNL No, really. If Agatha Christie was a slasher... An AU with Poirot/Hastings and boyband-flavoured pairings.
Smallville I have a confession to make: Lex Luthor has so far failed to captivate me, though I like reading the fanfic. Bring on the wet noodles.
Three Fairy Tales Of Smallville by Koi Koi's earlier Mercy has been recced to buggery -- for good reason. This one is more disjointed and perhaps less satisfying to readers looking for another long story, but it has that same sensation of pulling your guts out and twisting them. Bravo.
Spriggan Spriggan yaoi are few and hard to find, and FF.Net's banning of NC-17 fics certainly haven't made my job easier. Grr.
Sow a little tenderness by harpy_elian I feel uneasy about recommending two fics in seperate fandoms by the same author in one post, but this ficlet is too good not to be included. Jean/Yu.
Sometimes Nothing by Ponderosa The ending is a little weak, as with the fic above. Nevertheless, it's a fairly well-written PWP, shot through with angst. The author has written another Spriggan fic, but this is my favourite. Jean/Yu.
The Vision of Escaflowne Four Minutes: For the True Lover, A Year is as a Day by Didodikali A charming story with beautiful illustrations. What more could you want? Mostly het (Dryden/Millerna), with tasty side dishes. Check out her introduction to Escaflowne, too.

I'm barely even scratching the surface here, but certain people are poking me over y!m. As you'll see, I make few distinctions between anime/manga and live-action, or yaoi and slash. I'm just here for the fics, folks, not split meta hairs. To paraphrase a well-worn adage, there are only six fandom flame wars in existence, and I've seen them all re-enacted countless times.
Next post: Yasmin tackles LOTR, among other things. For now, enjoy.
From Eroica With Love This fandom has experienced a resurgance in recent years, for which I am most grateful. The manga is so flagrantly campy and over-the-top, nothing anyone could write can outdo it. Well, unless you're the Onna Mafia.
Worth a Thousand Words by Filigree Actually, I should just point you to Filigree's Eroica page and say, "Read all of them!" This WIP takes an AU where Klaus is openly gay and runs with it. Very, very well.
The Mirror Mirror Series by Kat and Whizzy Another AU, this time with Klaus as the thief and Dorian as the NATO operative. Not convinced that it could work? Read the stories and decide for yourself.
Advice for the Lovelorn Not a fanfic, strictly speaking, but it nearly sent me to the floor laughing. Dorian, Klaus, James, and Z answer all your romance dilemmas!
Harry Potter Sixteen in Bulgaria by Silvia Kundera What's a het fic doing in an m/m and f/f recs journal? Because I have a certain fondness for Hermione/Viktor, and because I could taste Hermione's skin.
Horatio Hornblower Ransom by Calypso Don't repeat the mistake I made by reading this just before bed, because by the time I actually closed my eyes the birds were chirping outside my window. At over 400K, it's not for the faint of heart, but it's well worth it.
Revolutionary Girl Utena Utena is one of the few fandoms where I find the female characters to be much more interesting than the male ones. I've always been rather indifferent to the yaoi fics inspired by the series/movie, despite the many good writers, but I can't get enough of Utena, Anthy, and Juri. With that in mind...
Archimage by Jude McLaughlin One of the best post-series Utena fics I've ever read, and certainly the best multi-parter I've found so far. Jude's Anthy retains her inscrutability, but more than fulfills the character potential hinted at in the series. In short, she kicks arse, without becoming a Mary Sue. Found via Didodikali.
Fairytale Ending by Thorne A beautifully-written Anthy fic. I have to admit that I didn't like series-Anthy much the first time I saw the series, but it's stories like this that made me take a second look -- as is evident by the focus on Anthy this time around. *g*
Serial Experiments Lain Water Shadows by Twig Not quite as freaky as the anime, but reading it gave me the same sense of dislocation that I felt upon watching Lain. Arisu/Lain, post-series.
Weiss Kreuz The fandom that broke my heart by creating layers upon layers of fanon around my favourite character. Of course, with WK most of what you have to work with is fanon, but why is it that so many people insist on treating Ken like a dumb, clumsy jock?
The New World Order Series by Aoe and Shoori Now this, my friend, is what I call an epic. "Eight Years in the Making" is the shortest story in the series, and it has 17 chapters. I suppose one could argue that the characters are OOC, but the patient pace of the series allows its readers to see the characters growing into the versions that Aoe and Shoori are writing.
